Response to Discussion Post-3 (Social Trends in Business):
A precise evaluation of social forces influencing companies has been discussed regarding remote
working, centered on sustainability issues, social media, and DEI. It opens up access to global
talent while provoking HRM investment in technology and the organization of work to sustain
effectiveness and team cohesion. This trend is unsurprising given the increase in the young and
technology-empowered workforce.
Environmentalism and corporate and social responsibilities are trending issues impacting
consumers. This opens up chances for environmental innovation for the business but, at the same
time, can be vulnerable to allegations of 'greenwashing.' Through customer engagement
interactions, social media provides growth avenues but negatively impacts publicity and data
privacy. Managing the changing digital landscape is a significant concern, especially in the
business sector.
The strategies related to DEI are one of the emerging areas that may foster a more inclusive and
diverse workplace. It can benefit corporate image and customer loyalty, though pitfalls exist and
must be managed to minimize risks of damaging the company's image and getting entangled in
legal challenges.
The argument's conclusion is well-defined in emphasizing the differentiation endeavors of
business organizations concerning these opportunities and threats as conducive for long-term
endurance in the contemporary social economy characterized by high social consumerism
expectations, particularly from the high-tech industry.
Response to Discussion Post-4 (Lockheed Martin):
It has covered broad areas of Lockheed Martin's position in light of social trends. The company's
DARPA AIR contract exemplifies how the business can use artificial intelligence to complement
existing processes and support product innovation. This also caters to the call for invention and
improved operations, as exemplified by their Operations for the Future campus. Their
technological application in manufacturing and supply chain management also supports this
claim.
However, potential problems like cyber espionage and movements within open IP call for
invention and security. The main business issue that can be identified for the company is data
protection from potentially threatening cyber events. Moreover, referencing the protests at
Lockheed's Sunnyvale office as a sign of increasing corporations' responsibility in international
war has raised significant concern.
Like all defense technology, Lockheed Martin faces the difficult task of moving forward while
maintaining the country's security and following the principles of ethics. The difficulties arising
from deep fakes and actual violence resulting from their merchandise make the new frontier of
their business even more tricky in a world that can be both more visible and more opaque.
