Introduction
Healthcare informatics technology has improved the delivery of healthcare services through the
improvement of patient-care results as well as efficient, proven healthcare delivery methods. One of
them is telehealth, the technology that allows the delivery of healthcare services across distances with
the help of digital communication means (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2017). This paper focuses on an
analysis of telehealth, its functions, the technology that it has replaced, how it has influenced nursing
knowledge and practice, the hardware and software that are required for implementing telehealth, how
to change leadership’s perception, and potential obstacles and factors to consider for its effective
implementation.

Technology Functions Overview
Telehealth, as a sub-field of healthcare informatics, enhances two-way communication
technologies in delivering healthcare services at a distance. It includes teleconferencing, telemonitoring,
and m-health services, and it offers many services, including chronic disease management,
psychotherapy, revisit and consultation services (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2017). Telehealth mainly relies
on video calls for functions that allow the physician or other healthcare givers to consult their patients
and have an actual conversation with them without even having to meet them physically. Tele-
monitoring devices, including wearables, can track the clients' health indicators for an extended period
and deliver data in real-time to the caregivers. Smartphone applications in m-health involve
communication, appointment, and health-related information sharing, improving patient participation
and management.
Replaced Technology and Improvements in Nursing
Telehealth was less prevalent in the past, and prior to it, conventional face-to-face
appointments were the typical procedures. It meant that patients had to come to the healthcare
facilities, which sometimes can be daunting, especially for patients in rural or isolated areas. Telehealth
has adopted the place of this conventional consultation, thus improving the accessibility and
convenience of the healthcare sector (Sensmeier, 2024). For nursing, this change translates to Reduced
travel time, increased patient interaction and constant surveillance, which results in better control of
diseases and quick interventions.
Impact on Nursing Practice and Knowledge
Telehealth has revolutionized nursing knowledge and practice by boosting the opportunity to
reach out to community groups geographically located in areas that could deem it challenging to access
healthcare services. They enhance patients' knowledge of their health status and ability to manage it,
ultimately leading to a healthier population (Sensmeier, 2024). Interoperability with the Electronic
Health Record (EHR) ensures that data sharing for continuity of care is well achieved. By utilizing IoT, the
nursing staff can watch patients and provide early diagnosis in the event of complications and, in the
process, enhance the quality of patient care.

Telehealth entails designing a specific hardware and software type to provide adequate medical
and health-related support. In the hardware aspect, good high-definition cameras, microphones, and
speakers are crucial for a proper video conference. Such components contribute to enabling both the
healthcare providers and the patients to communicate smoothly and smoothly (Hunter et al., 2021).
Other equipment like wearable blood pressure devices, glucometers and devices, fitness tracking
devices, etc., for remote monitoring are also required. These devices guarantee the consistent health
status of patients as they feed the results to healthcare providers in real-time.
On the software side, telehealth platforms are Zoom for Healthcare and Doxy. Center and
Teladoc are considered essential for me. These platforms allow safe video calls so the information about
the patient's status remains confidential and the call adheres to HIPAA rules. EHR integration software is
also required to capture telehealth consultation data and feed it into the patient's electronic health
record (Hunter et al., 2021). This is crucial in ensuring that records owned by the patients are updated
and accurate, thus improving patient care. Applications for communication with patients and data are
part of the system. These apps improve the antidotal interaction between patients since they can book
appointments with their physicians and even access educational content on health.
Influencing Leadership to Purchase Technology
To change leadership's minds and get them to accept telehealth, it is essential to show them
figures regarding costs and its efficiency in benefiting patients and offering a competitive advantage to
organizations. Telehealth can save much cash through decreased face-to-face consultation, fewer
hospital readmissions, and fewer emergency service incidences. For instance, telehealth visits average
$79, contrary to $146, which was charged for in-person visits as determined and published by Health
Affairs. To avoid stretched and generic figures that have no connection to actual results, one should
explain the results in the form of pilot projects, which include a reduction of readmissions for CHF
patients by 48% through telemonitoring. These better results improve the patient's quality of life and
diminish the general costs of healthcare.
Focusing on how telehealth can increase the engagement level of patients, decrease the
number of readmissions, and help better manage chronic conditions provides quite a convincing
argument. Telehealth is less demanding and more elastic than conventional care since patients do not
have to travel or take days off from work, thus resulting in higher patient satisfaction. Telehealth
similarly helps improve follow-up care, which lowers the possibility of a readmission. For example, the
analysis of JAMA Inner Medicine identified a 44% decrease in the 30-day readmission rate of patients
with multiple SDOH comorbidities when using telehealth. Thus, carefully analyzing needs and developing
a pilot program can be critical determinants for an organization's successful adoption of telehealth.
Technology Implementation Plan
The first is establishing a list of areas where telehealth will be helpful; a needs analysis must be
performed to determine the best solution. This includes assessing the existing state of the healthcare
delivery systems and determining areas that would benefit from telehealth solutions. The second step
that needs to be taken is to choose the proper hardware and software suppliers for the organization's
requirements and compatibility with systems already in use. The third intervention is to educate the
employees on the new technologies and rightly apply the notion of telehealth. It also increases
healthcare providers' comfort and efficiency with the tools required for adequate telehealth

implementation (Carroll, 2024). The fourth step is to identify guidelines for telehealth visits, including
how the visits are scheduled, the documentation that might be needed, and the follow-up protocols that
should be implemented. These protocols are pivotal to maintaining homogeneity and efficiency of
patient care throughout telehealth communication. The fifth action plan is to trial the program with a
sample of the organization. This puts the organization in a position to look for flaws and solve them
before executing the system. The last process is assessment and evaluation, which helps to check the
results and update the program as necessary.
Technology Implementation Considerations
Several factors are essential when managing telehealth to yield the intended results. The
services should meet HIPAA standards to promote patient privacy and keep their information safe. This
entails implementing measures to ensure patient data is safe and secure during telehealth consults.
Technical assistance and problem-solving must also be given to solve any concerns to enable quick and
effective responses (Carroll, 2024). This support helps ensure that healthcare givers and patients
adequately utilise the telehealth tools described above without hitches. Another critical issue is to
provide equal opportunities for the use of technologies for all patients, including those from distant
regions. This involves developing ways of helping a patient who might need a device or internet
connection to access the health services offered.
Implementation of Challenges

the staff and patients to fully adapt to the new technology; therefore, transport time is also an issue. It
must be understood that there can always be resistance to change, and people need to be trained in
telehealth tools.

Telehealth is one of the significant emergent fields in healthcare informatics that has
revolutionized nursing care. Telehealth affords access to healthcare, engaging the patients and
continuous monitoring, which improves the nursing practice and the patient's results. Telehealth
practice entails systematically selecting the relevant hardware software, team member training, and
problem-solving in case of difficulties. That is why, with the exemplary leadership and a detailed
implementation plan, telehealth can become a natural extension of the healthcare delivery approach for
the future, inevitably leading to the creation of an intelligent and connected healthcare system.
