Chapter 11

Now, only a few boys remain in Ralph's camp. They need Piggy's glasses to light the signal fire. Piggy asks Ralph to blow into the conch and assemble the boys. Ralph does so, and only a few younger boys and Samneric appear for the meeting. Ralph starts discussing what to do next. After the discussion, they finally decide to go to Castle Rock and talk to Jack and his followers to try to convince them to help. Samneric suggest taking spears with them to defend themselves against Jack's followers, but Piggy opposes this idea and insists on bringing only the conch with them. They reach Castle Rock and blow the conch. Roger appears and throws a rock at Samneric. Jack appears from behind along with his hunters and a hunted pig. Ralph calls him a thief, and Jack attacks Ralph with a spear. They fight for some time. Ralph asks Jack to return Piggy's glasses and reminds everyone of the need for a signal fire. Jack orders his hunters to tie Samneric up, and they obey his orders. While Jack and Ralph are fighting, Piggy shouts and calls them all kids and asks them to be sensible. Roger stands on a higher platform and drops a big rock on Piggy's head. It hits him and throws him off balance, and he dies on the spot. It is suddenly silent, but Jack ends the silence by screaming, aiming his spear at Ralph, and throwing it to kill him. Jack's followers also start throwing spears at Ralph, and Ralph runs into the forest to save himself. Semnaric is taken into the castle, and Jack terrifies him into joining his tribe.
