Theater 3, Chapter 14
This chapter deals with many forms of Contemporary American Theatre that are outside the "norm" or the “mainstream” of commercial entertainment. Wilson talks about the lack of government support for the arts in this country, and cuts to the NEA (National Endowment for the Arts) program. Do you believe that the government should encourage and financially support theatre (as in most European countries), even non-traditional theatre, or should all theatre be profitable and self-sufficient? Is the quality and diversity of theatre effected by a purely capitalist approach? Be sure to use clear examples with support.
