NOTE: You can work as individuals or in teams with up to four members. Grading difficulty will be scaled based on team size. Grading: A+ will be given for project submissions that are essentially perfect and could be built from submitted schematic. A- to A will be given for projects that are essentially correct but have some limiting errors that need correction. B- to B+ will be given for good work which yields results that are flawed and need significant error correction but are based on a sound design philosophy. Lower grades (below B-) will be given for projects that would require redesign beyond error correction to work Project Description: To complete this project you will need to correctly choose (and properly justify) the correct member of the PIC 18Fxx family needed to build the alarm clock already specified in class. A successful design will be perfect in all details and would work if built. You will need to properly design the reset circuit and clock inputs. You are to include all external hardware and correct connections to the pins of the PIC that you have chosen. You are to include any sensors, switches, buttons, pull-up resistors, etc that will be part of the interface with the PIC. The design utilizes a programmable LCD

display. All teams are to use the “TRULY LCD MODULE MTC-C162DPRN-2N” (with datasheet provided and posted on Blackboard.” When built, your design would operate as an alarm clock once

programmed.

Circuit-Diagram: Each team will develop a very detailed circuit diagram that is consistent with their

specification and write-up. Any person of reasonable skill in electrical engineering could build the

alarm clock based only on the circuit diagram.

Write-up:

Your write-up will be in the form of a formal report. It will include the following sections:

1. COVER PAGE identifying the team members , Project and Class. 2. INTRODUCTION giving a general description of the project (in abstract form – 2-3

paragraphs)

3. DETAILED SPECIFICATION describing all details of the alarm clock being designed. (not to exceed one page)

4. CHOICE OF PIC 18Fxx with justification for that choice 5. CLOCKING MODE CHOICE -- Description of how the PIC 18Fxx clocking mode with

justification for the choices made

6. GENERAL DESIGN THEORY (limited to 3 pages)

7. DESCRIPTION OF PIC PORTS/PINS – Describe how the pins will be used and what they will be connected to.

8. LCD DISPLAY – Describe interface for the display 9. FINAL COMMENTS
