As you saw when studying the 60s, there was a definite shift in around 1964 in family and moral values from the 50s. In this discussion, you will watch clips from at least two television shows that were popular from EACH of the two periods: 50s and mid 60s-70s that centered around families. 50's shows can be Father Knows Best, Leave it to Beaver, I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners or Ozzie and Harriet. The 70's - All in the Family (required), Laugh In, The Jeffersons, or Maude.
What changes in societal expectations of youth, family dynamics and women's roles do you see change from the first group to the second group? Did the shows reflect society at that time? How. What major changes did you notice from one period to the other? Finally, do you believe television shows of today reflect OUR society, and how?
Most of these television can be accessed today through channels like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and other streaming channels.
