                                                    Thematic summary question

Meaning and interpretation:  During the last two weeks we encountered a variety of works of art that presented the religious, cultural or political ideas of the artist, patron or society that created them.  Discuss how art serves as a conduit for these ideas.  How did artists use art to present ideas to the public?  What is the context of this presentation?  Who was meant to view the works and why/how were the works of art meant to be read and understood?  Your essay must use at least five (5) specific and dated examples drawn from at least 3 different cultures or periods.  The works you choose should backup your statements. The examples should be discussed fully within your narrative and not briefly addressed in a "bulleted list".

Your essay must be (3) pages  in length, must include properly cited peer reviewed references to support your statements and must be proof read for grammar and spelling.  Make sure that you properly cite all references as plagiarized papers will result in a failing grade in the course.
