Learning to Read or Reading to Learn?

As children develop their reading skills, they go from learning to read to reading to learn.  Do you remember when you went from learning to read to reading to learn?  What do you remember about this time?  If you do not remember this, what do you think it would look like when a student goes through this phase of reading?
