The division of the arts classical aesthetics first collected the various arts under one concept. At the same time, it often relied on their strict separation. Modernism is on the contrary defined by expanding and even breaking the boundaries of artistic media. How may classical aesthetics still be applicable in this new situation? Apply a work of classical aesthetics(written before1850) that tests the limits of its medium, mixes media, or uses a new medium. The paper should include at least one reference to a schorlarly work on either the art, the theory, or the issue treated.
