In this assignment, you will participate in a discussion about mergers and the rationale behind merging.

Instructions 1. Research major mergers over the past year.2. Select a merger for further discussion. Answer the following questions and post your answers to the Discussion Board:

• Describe the merger you researched.
• What was the motivation behind the transaction?
• Were the companies in the same industry? Geography?
• Was it a friendly or hostile transaction?

3. Read the posts of other students and respond to at least two posts from other students by asking questions, or adding to the discussion, and fostering further discussion of the topic. Consider the following questions:

• What merger type is most common with “friendly” transactions? What about hostile takeovers? Why do you think there is a difference?
• What type of merger seems to be most common within companies in the same industry?  Different industries?  What do you think the difference is due to?
