I enjoyed reading your post.  This is a very interesting question and your answer is that you believe leaders are made.

I wanted to share with you a survey  performed by the The Center for Creative Leadership, as most of the executives surveyed agree with you.

The survey consisted of 361 top level executives (Chief Executives, Operating Officers, Presidents) over the course of three years.  The respondents were natives of 53 different countries.  The executives were 62.9% male and 37.1 % female.  The average age was 49 years old and most were from the private sector.  The average hours in the work-week was 6-50 hours, with the average work day of 10 hours.

The respondents were asked to indicated whether leaders were born or made:  69 believed leaders were born, 189 believed leaders were made and 103 believed leaders were equally born and made.

Both groups believed that experience is important but those who believed leaders were born believed that traits are slightly more important than experience.  Those who believe leaders made, believed experience is substantially more important than traits.
