To Dr. Clover (2nd Response Needed For Unit 1 DB)
How will accomplishing these objectives support your success in management? What risks or challenges might a manager encounter if they have not mastered these objectives? Explain.
The knowledge from these objectives will support my success in management by learning how to deal with different situations in business and delivering good results. This can not only help me be a good manager but a good leader. Not gaining the conception of these objectives can be the difference in effective communication. Not having effective communication can mean the difference in building and maintaining relationships with employees along with better cooperation and improvement.
How are leadership and management similar? Different?
A manager gets individuals to do what needs to be done while a leader gets them to want to do what is needed to be done. In some professions the manager and leader assume the same role. Their similarities are in their ability to take a strategic view of a business or goal. Another is being able to achieve goals through others rather than doing everything by themselves as an individual contributor would. Their differences is that good leaders inspire personal development. This would be qualities like education, morale and ethics, providing the motivation to improve performance for an organization. On the other hand a manager evaluates an organization’s strengths and weaknesses and takes necessary actions for the right resources.
What are some examples of ethical challenges that leaders and managers face in today’s global business environment?
An ethical issue that most of the time comes about in an organization is bad leadership behavior. An example of this is when the owner or leader doesn’t practice what they preach, or put rules in place for employees but not following them themselves. This could stop the motivation of the employees. Another issue is technology privacy concerns. This is when employers monitor their workers' use of technology, such as emails and website history. A leader or owner should know how much privacy an employee is expected when on a company device, whether it’s on a computer, tablet or phone.
Are leaders born or made? Defend your position.
I can’t say that some people don’t have leadership qualities at birth. But I think in most cases leaders or leadership is something learned more than born with. An example would be a CEO that were successful in one company and went to another company and failed. To me that meant he didn’t do so well because he needed to be taught about the new situation. Even though he was a successful leader in one company, starting in a new environment requires even more continuous learning. In other words there have to be some experience.
