The Theory of Model of Multiple Dimensions of Identity

The Department of Students is responsible for educating students on how to navigate and understand themselves during their collegiate experience. The purpose of this training is to build an understanding for our students that many identities hold different values and authority than others by in our society. However, a person’s Social identity influences how a student views themselves,  interact with others, and make decisions on their life choices. The Theory of Model of Multiple Dimensions of Identity offers a direct correlation to how intersecting identity traits surrounds the core identity that the individual represents (Jones & McEwen, 2000). This model stresses that fact that identity is both internally constructed by the person and externally constructed by outside people. This model offers advisor key approaches on how to support students are they formulate into their true self.
