The Peculiar Institution

Examine at least four Antebellum runaway slave advertisements from 1830-1860 on the North Carolina Runaway Slave Advertisements website. (Will send the link) Afterwards, in your first post, write a 5-6 sentence paragraph describing what historians can learn about slave life by examining such documents. In a second post, find another advertisement that either supports of refutes the statements of one of your fellow classmates. Make sure you narrow your searches to the proper time period by using the link on the left hand side of the page. Also, please support your statements with direct reference to the date of publication of advertisements, for example, "In an advertisement from March 1, 1834, we can see..."
