Technology and Investment—Green or Black?

Whether the world moves to greener energies, or “dirtier”  unconventional ones is a key question that will help determine the  planet’s fate. The development of Canadian oil sands continues, yet so  does the deployment of solar and wind energy in Germany and elsewhere.  On balance, which way is the world likely to go? 
Based on your  considered review of this module’s readings as well as your reflection  upon all of the modules, particularly those on energy trends and  transitions around the world, evaluate the questions below:

• Scientist James Hansen says further development of Canadian tar  sands dooms the planet. In what ways does this claim have scientific  validity, and what do you make of it personally?
• In your estimation, could this fate be avoided if scientists,  engineers and societies across the world alter their energy and  transportation systems to lessen greenhouse gas emissions?
