Fifty-Point Summary Assignment

We will work on this assignment at the library this week. You will have one week to complete this assignment. Look in the book of sample assignments for an example. 

1. Locate an article of a medium level of difficulty, from a scholarly journal or trade publication in your field. I would like the article to be between two-four pages long. 

Ø First, you will do a visual organizer. That is typically one main heading, then four-five sub-headings with four-five sub-points for each sub-heading. You can do this by hand—it doesn’t need to be typed, though you can if you like.

Ø Write a summary of a minimum of five-eight paragraphs (that is the typical length) to translate it in a nontechnical version. The summary should be between 1,000-1250 words. Photocopy this article for me to look at when I read your summary. 

Ø Finally, I want you to write a descriptive summary of your summary. A descriptive summary is even more condensed and should be about one-third the length of the original summary, emphasizing the major ideas in sharper detail.
