Considering the competitive nature inherent to a multitude of cultural norms in the United States, should it be any surprise that we find ourselves in the middle of an epidemic of steroid use? Which do you feel is a stronger influence on youth who engage in steroid use: 1) the widely known fact that many professional athletes use steroids and other performance enhancing drugs, or 2) the above-mentioned aspects of our competition-driven society? Do you feel this issue of steroid use is as pressing as other drugs we have discussed during the semester, and why or why not? Finally, what has your own experience been with steroid use; did you see it happening in your high school or do you see their use at college?
