There are several ways to treat wastewater and the sludge resulting from the treatment process. Wastewater is often released in different areas depending on where you live.

• Do you know where the wastewater from your community goes?
• Take a moment to check the local treatment plant's website, or stop by and visit or give them a call and find out the answers to the following questions. Post your results.

1. By visiting a wastewater treatment plant near you, checking their website, or making a phone call, determine   

a. What is used to disinfect water: chlorine or ozone?
b. Upon treatment, where is the wastewater released?
c. What methods are used to treat sludge?

2. Visit the EPA sites and write a brief report (250 words) on guidelines for treatment of sewage.
