A star is a huge ball of hot , glowing gases held together by its own gravity.
WHAT IS A STAR???
Like everything else in nature, stars are born, live out their days, and die.
Stars are not alive but the do have a life cycle
This Giant Molecular cloud is called stellar nursey. This is where the stars are formed. Whe there is turbulance in the cloud it creates knots and clumps of material. When the knot is large enough, it collapes under its own gravity, creating a core that begins to heat up.
In the Beginning...
There is only dust and gas
Stellar Nursery:
The Gravitational pull of the protostar will continue to attract dust and gas over time, and the increase mass will cause the core to become hotter and denser. Once it reach its compacts fusion will start and the hydrogen gas begins to turn into helium.

After the core heats up it becomes a ....
The Main sequence is a battle against gravity. Stars are massive that gravity was the only force working on them, they would collapse. Stars have super-hot cores that create pressure and works AGAINST gravity which create equililbrium. But eventually the star will run out of hydrogen to convert into helium.
A star that is fusing hydrogen is called....
Main Sequence :
Then the inner layers of the star begin to collapse increasing heat and pressure at the core. Then the outer layers expand several hundred times their normal size, and the star becomes the red giant.
Red Giant :
When the star is red giant there is temporaraily enough heat and pressure in the core to fuse helium into carbon, preventing further collaspe. But when the hellium is gone the core collaspes again and the outer layer of the star are blown away. Then becomes a white dward: a dense, slowly colling remnant about the size of a plant.
White Dwarf:
The atoms in a white dwarf are so close together that it simply cannot collaspe any more, but once the heat is stored in it is gone it will no longer glow and will become a black dwarf.

A red super Giant will also fuse helium into carbon, but once the helium is gone there is enough mass to power other fusion reactions (including iron). When there is nothing left to fuse, the core is no longer producing energy and gravity. Then the tempurter of the core rises to over 100 billion degrees, the iron atoms are crushed together, and the core pushed out and creates an explosive shock wave.
Giant Super red:
The shock wave causes a huge explosion called SUPERNOVA!
