Response 1
Desmond Tutu, in this week's journal assignment, argues for the importance of restorative justice in peace. His claims are powerfully made about the importance of righting wrongs in South Africa and his claim is applied to areas of strife after colonialism as a solution to the problems faced in other nations in Africa an Asia. My line of inquiry here is on whether or not that argument makes sense when we apply to something like colonialism, are long colonized countries like India in worse shape than those that are not? If it is not a good explanation for war, will it be an effective tool in finding peace?
