Choose an artist for your report, and obtain your instructor’s approval.
Conceptual Identification
(apply key concepts, terminology, and methodologies in the analysis of various visual and performing arts)
Analysis of Artwork - Include 3 pictures of the artist’s works of art, and analyze those 3 pieces of art for the following items:
- Composition - Is it interesting? Does it flow? Does the artwork draw the viewer in?
- Color -Explain the artist’s use of color (e.g., complementary colors, primary colors, analogous colors, monochromatic colors, etc.)

Contextual Identification
(Identify works of art within historical, social, political, cultural, and aesthetic contexts)
Analysis of Artwork - Include 3 pictures (different pictures from those above) of the artist’s works of art, and analyze those works of art as they pertain to and/or identify with the following contexts:
- Historical (of or concerning history; concerning past events)
- Social (of or relating to society or its organization)
- Political (of or relating to the ideas or strategies of a particular party or group in politics)
- Cultural (of or relating to the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a society; of or relating to the arts and to intellectual achievements)
- Aesthetic (concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty)

Include 2 pictures of any artist’s works of art (not necessarily your chosen artist), and:
- Explain how 1 piece of artwork responds to society and culture.
- Explain how 1 piece of artwork influences society and culture.

Engagement & Experience
(actively engage with visual and performing arts and other cultural forms through experience or creative expression)
Creation of Artwork – Create 1 painting that is influenced by the artist of your choice. This piece of artwork will be judged as follows:
- Impact (overall quality).
- Interpretation & Creativity (completeness/effort).
- Composition & Design (organization).
- Craftsmanship.
- Did the student use/demonstrate at least 3 of the techniques and concepts covered throughout the semester?

Explain why you chose this artist for your final project.
Maybe you were attracted to the artist’s use of color.
Maybe you like the artist’s style.
Whatever it is, explain what you like about the artist and his or her work.
Include at least two pictures that demonstrate why your chose this artist. These pictures must be different from the other pictures included in the report.

Provide a list of your sources to the instructor. You must use five or more sources.

Requirements for the project/report
Each student will create a report based on the required items in the grading rubric and one painting to go with this report. There is no minimum or maximum amount of pages for the report. The report should be printed on standard printer paper.
Acceptable sources for this project include:
- Articles found in magazines, newspapers, and art journals.
- Online sources*.
- Personal interviews with art historians, art teachers, museum curators, gallery owners, the actual artist, etc.
- Videos.
*Do not use Wikipedia as a source for project material.
You must use a minimum of five sources for your project/report.
