2. Religion in the News 

This journal assignment asks you to check newspapers and other news websites and come up with a list of at least 15 examples of news stories revolving around religion. These stories should have appeared within the last 6 months. For each news story You need to provide: the headline, the date, the newspaper and website source of the story. (I suggest you “copy & paste these) Then provide a short (no more than a few sentences) summary of what the story is about, making clear which religious tradition/s is/are involved. 

For this assignment you should search internet news websites and not overtly religious Websites for your examples. For example: yahoo.com. cnn.com. msn.com, toledoblade.com, the New York Times, Associate Press,Huffington Post, etc.

If you’re confused, here’s an example—from neo-nazi skinhead to orthodox Jew. This is from a recent  NY Times article http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/28/world/europe/28poland.html?pagewanted=1&hpw 

Please, no more than 2 or 3 articles dealing with the same topic.  And no more than 3 from the same source. And you must also include at least  4 articles dealing with any of the Asian Religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, or Confucianism!) 

In order to receive full credit, each of the 15 entries must include the following:

1.  The Headline or title of the article

2. The URL (web address)

3. A brief summary—3 or 4 sentences that explain what the article is about.
