Beginning in the 1960s, Democratic and Republican efforts to build and strengthen national party power diverged according to two strategies or tactics (pgs. 75-77). Differentiate these two paths and highlight a historical example of each not mentioned in the book. Which path do you think is most effective in today's political climate? Why?
