Q1 (sam evans)

Workplace misconduct can escalate quickly, and employers must respond with reasonable care to avoid both safety risks and legal exposure. Courts evaluating harassment, violence, or vicarious liability look closely at what the employer knew, should have known, and did in response.

Consider the following scenario:

A mid-sized manufacturing company receives repeated informal complaints about a machine operator who has a history of angry outbursts, yelling at coworkers, and throwing tools when frustrated. Several employees have voiced concerns to their supervisor over the past six months, but no formal complaints were filed. One afternoon, the operator shoves a coworker during an argument, causing a minor injury. After the incident, the injured coworker alleges that the company ignored clear warning signs and failed to protect employees from foreseeable harm.

In your initial post, address the following:

  • Under      what circumstances could the employer be liable for negligent retention or      negligent supervision in this scenario?
  • How      does the lack of a formal complaint affect (or not affect) the employer’s      responsibility to act?
  • Would      the shove likely fall within the “scope of employment” for purposes of      vicarious liability, or would it be considered outside that scope?
  • What      steps should the employer have taken once the pattern of outbursts      began?
  • How      would a court evaluate whether the company’s response was “reasonable”      under these circumstances?

Your response should apply this week’s legal frameworks and demonstrate thoughtful, graduate-level analysis.

#5: If you had to select ONE individual discussed in our readings from the late-Nineteenth or early-Twentieth centuries as the subject for a biography, who would you choose and why?

2. Within the same body of the response you make to the writing prompt in Part One above, I would ask that you also frame a response to the following questions (i.e., a paragraph or two): How would you define the Populist and Progressive Era, what leading voices or classes of Americans led the call for reform or change, and how might Progressives from the early Twentieth Century differ (e.g., class; ideology; etc.,) from those who call themselves "progressives" today, if at all?

How would you decide which research method quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods—is best suited for investigating a particular organizational behavior issue? Describe a specific topic related to organizational behavior and discuss how ethical considerations, including the responsible use of AI, would influence your approach. How can you ensure your research maintains integrity and avoids plagiarism while using AI tools to support your work?

Evaluate the impact of technological advancements and globalization on HRM. How can HR practices adapt to these changes?

Reflect on your experiences with technological changes such as AI, automation, and cloud-based HR systems, as well as the effects of globalization on workforce diversity and international compliance. How have these advancements and global trends impacted your workplace or internships? Share examples of how HR practices have adapted to these changes and discuss strategies that have been effective in managing these transitions.

This assignment has three components, but the goal is to present a short, fabricated conversation among three composers from the Romantic Era and gain a better understanding of them, their music, and their culture. Imagine them meeting at a party and giving them an interesting musical or cultural topic to discuss. For example, ask Beethoven, Chopin, and Schumann to discuss why Wagner's music sounds so angry or whether any of them read Shelley's The Modern Prometheus (a.k.a.Frankenstein) and what they thought of the premise.  Then complete parts I, II, and III below.

Part I

For this assignment, you will need to use some generative AI system; the choice is yours, but you will need to be crystal clear about which system you used (Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT, etc.). Post your prompt at the top of the post in a normal font and then the AI-generated conversation in Italics.  Follow this with a short paragraph with your evaluation of the conversation (What surprised you? What impressed you? What is wrong?) Test each reference and identify each as legitimate, fake, or misleading.

Part II

Pick a minimum of two classmates and ask relevant questions based on the information in the conversation. [Example, So Chopin, did you really feel you were losing your mind when the monster killed Victor's wife, Elizabeth? Why?]

Part III

This is the most critical part and must be thought out by you and not provided by AI. This exercise will build your critical thinking skills as well as your digital literacy. Respond to your classmates with your opinion about the answer. These should be framed as "That is a great question, and based on the AI-generated conversation and our course material, I believe the answer would be...." The answers must be educated opinions, but they must be your opinions. They do not need to be right, but they need to be well-reasoned based on the evidence in the conversation and material.

Side note, it would be really sad if someone had to rely on AI for generating that person's opinion. That person might need to rethink the goal of getting a degree.

As we’ve seen, artists working in the Ancient through Medieval period often used visual imagery to communicate ideas of power. Select and fully identity a work of art from the module resources that you feel represents the idea of power. Based on the information in the module and other scholarly sources, what did you learn about the culture that created the work you selected? How does the work of art represent the culture’s ideas of power? What do you see that visually supports your response?

In the discussion forum for this week, you will create a scenario that requires the use of a binomial distribution. Before posting your problem, please review the criteria for a binomial distributions by reviewing Week 5 Binomial distribution and Binomial Distribution in Excel Week 5.

Instructions:

  • For      your post you will make up a problem that uses binomial distribution      similar to the example below. Try to have 3 scenarios. You do not need to      solve your own problem.
  • If you      can, try a probability different from .5. In your problem, make sure that      the probability stays the same for each trial!
  • You      will answer problems from classmates for your responses. Copy the question      and your Excel formulas into your forum posts so your professor and      classmates can check your work. Then write a brief summary of the results      after the problem you copied in your post.

Example initial post:

For this example, assume that a family has 8 children, and the probability that any one child is a boy is .51.

a) Find the probability that the family has exactly 5 boys.

b) Find the probability that the family has more than 5 boys.

c) Find the probability that the family has at most 5 boys.
