Why is it important that we be able to view media reports objectively?  What are the dangers associated with not being able to read, view or listen to media objectively?

In the previous chapters about standards for thinking and media bias, you may have noted the importance of the credibility of sources and evidence in evaluating other points of view.

The following video discusses what credibility is and why it is important.

Watch "Credibility: Critical Thinking," located on this week's Electronic Reserve Readings page. (39 min. 28 sec.)

Think about the following while you watch the video:

· How can you determine if information is credible? How can this be applied in your life?

Note: You may also want to view the "Assumptions: Critical Thinking" video (26 min. 16 sec.) located in this week's Electronic Reserve Readings. That video presents exercises that illustrate how to become aware of your own assumptions and how doing so can help improve your critical thinking skills.
