The CDC reports that the country is facing an unprecedented epidemic of obesity in all regions. It indicates that it is doing everything within its legal authority to address the epidemic. Unfortunately, there is little that the federal government can do to fight obesity. 

Visit CDC website (http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html) and read the adult and childhood obesity facts. Then consider the following:

1. Why is the federal government's authority to fight obesity so limited?

2. What approaches are being used to address this epidemic? Discuss this in terms of education, regulations, food industry standards, impacts by restaurants, medical procedures?

3. What is the "costs" associated with obesity? 

4. What measures do you think should be taken?
