Write a personal essay about how you want your professor to know you as a person. Make this personal statement an accurate depiction of who you are in your life right now.

Write about what has made you who you are today. You don’t have to reveal anything that feels private. 

First, tell about your context: how ancestry, family, inherited culture, society, religion, and any other strong influences on your family identity have shaped you. Focus on the influences that taught you, while you were growing up, who others thought you should be, etc. Define which ones you identify with and those you have moved away from.

Next, focus on who you are now and where you’re aiming your life. This section is about who you have become as a unique individual. Present an accurate portrait of who you learned to be.
