 The homework assignment for next Tuesday is to read the Rubin introduction to Sōseki and the 2 lectures, write typed, one-page, double-spaced response papers to each lecture in which you clearly identify what you take to be the most significant, interesting, relevant point(s), insight(s), argument(s), concept(s), critique(s) etc. and then explain why you think what you choose to write about is important/valuable to you, our understanding of the Meiji period and/or to our course. These response papers are informal; just write down you thoughts freely and naturally as they come to you Please also write down one question at the bottom of each response paper related to the lectures that you would like to discuss as a group with the class.
