During our course, I learned more in-depth aspects of court proceedings, especially about appeals. Understanding the importance of giving a person a fair day in court is an important part of our judicial system. Often cases are thought to be open and shut; but it’s not until there is presentation of evidence that the true case is presented. There are times that offenders are cleared in cases that the public assumes they are guilty. A well-known traumatic court case was O.J. Simpson. His not guilty verdict seemed to affect everyone in some way. Those that knew he was guilty were crushed. Those that wanted him to be innocent regardless of the evidence, were happy. It was a perfect example of how you never know what the outcome will be until the verdict is read.
