Each person of my class chose a product to do the final project. I chose to talk about the "imperfect box". (https://www.imperfectproduce.com/join/)
A little bit about the imperfect product that I found on their website: Billions of pounds of food go to waste every year, often just because they don’t look the way that big retail stores want them to. Instead of ending up on your dinner plate, this food is often left in the field, stranded in a warehouse, sent to become animal feed, or sold at a significant loss to become processed food. We think that’s crazy, and we’ve built a network of over 200 farmers and producers who agree. We buy their unloved food and deliver it in boxes to your home, so you get a great deal on fresh produce and groceries, and they’re rewarded for their full harvest and production–not just for the pretty stuff.
Since our goal is to reduce food waste and empower you to do the same, we don’t want to send you something you don’t want. You get to choose which items come in every box that ends up on your doorstep through a seamless online grocery shopping experience. Don't like grapefruit? No problem. Running low on lentils? You got it. Eager to try celery root? More power to you. Our seasonal menu changes each week, so there’s always something new to try. Or, you can stick to the staples, because we have those, too.
Shortly after you’ve chosen your grocery items for the week and finalized your perfect box, our drivers drop it off with a smile at your doorstep. To minimize our carbon footprint and make sure you get your groceries efficiently, you’re assigned a delivery day based on your neighborhood. Don’t worry though–you don’t have to be home to receive a delivery. You can leave us detailed directions on where to leave your box until you can bring it safely inside.
