Globalization has been impacting business in a material way for the past 40 to 50 years. In recent years, this impact has been strengthening. Appreciating the impact of this trend and the driving forces is useful for today’s business professionals.
Research the topic using your textbook, Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet. Respond to the following:
- How important would you characterize globalization for developing business professionals? Take a position and provide evidence.
- What do you believe is the single most important force driving globalization in business? Present an argument for your position as to the most important aspect and include a discussion of forces which you believe to be less important.
STUDENT RESPONSE:
I believe that globalization for development professionals is very important. Integration strategies into diverse cultures has an enormous impact on the way organizations manage their employees. Having the knowledge of globalization can help people manage better and can help business owners grow globally. Most successful companies interact with customers and stakeholders from diverse cultures, backgrounds and languages. For an example in social services, we work with different people therefore engaging with someone from a different background may be difficult. Having social workers that speak different languages help the world in services serve more people, the population grows. It promotes global economic growth, creates jobs, makes companies more competitive, and lowers prices for consumers. It also provides poor countries, through infusions of foreign capital and technology, with the chance to develop economically by spreading prosperity creates the conditions in which democracy and respect for human rights may flourish (Mike Collins, Author, Saving American Manufacturing).
The most important force driving globalization in business is pushing for professional development. Development professionally is with providing employees opportunities to reach their career goals. Globalization is important to professional development because it creates a good feeling, range of skills and competencies for their employees. While the global strategy yields cost savings in production and marketing for firms and offers well-priced products or parts to buyers, it is sometimes criticized as not being sensitive enough to market preferences. The challenge for organizations using this strategy is to remember that a company’s success is dependent on the value it has for the consumers in any market (Argosy). This will develop a connection with all employees to take advantage of professional development. Another important force to drive globalization in business is a greater emphasis on training. A good company should host language classes to staff to help teach employees how to use global software to increase employee diversity. Another positive is world power. There is a world power that is being created gradually, instead of compartmentalized power sectors. Politics are merging and decisions that are being made are beneficial for people all over the world (Mike Collins).
People all over the world are connected through quick money flow, international travel, and global manufacturing. But this can be less important if you’re the increase globalization is leading to deadly diseases like HIVE/AIDS. These diseases are being spread by travelers. Globalization has led to the exploitation of labor. Prisoners and child workers are used to work in inhumane conditions. Safety standards are ignored to produce cheap goods. There is also an increase in human trafficking (Mike Collins).
