 PROMPT: John Donne’s secular poems and religious poems demonstrate a sharp contrast between Donne’s pre-religious life and devoted religious life. In that way, we simultaneously have access to two very different moments in Donne’s identity. For this discussion, compare and contrast the secular poems and the religious poems by Donne you read for this week. What are the different motivations of the poems? What are the different concerns?
