Introduction to workplace safety

The course textbook lists the ten most frequently cited OSHA standards. Select the standard that you believe presents the greatest risk to employees. Describe why you feel violating the selected standard presents a greater risk to employees than the others.

Respond to another student's post who selected a different standard, commenting on that selection and why you think it may not pose the greater risk or, alternatively, agreeing with the student's explanation for why that standard may be more hazardous than you initially realized.

I believe that the greatest risk amongst the OSHA standards in the reading is Fall Protection Training (OSHA 1926.503). I believe this because I have taught the OSHA and CSA compliant fall protection courses and find that there are no base lines in the training. Yes, the standards are the standards but they are not specific enough. Anyone who has taken these courses can probably tell you that not one instructor taught the same as anyone else (barring jurisdictional changes of course). It was a huge frustration for me to go into a class for recertification and having to go page by page through the standards to show the individuals why I said what I said, there should not be room for interpertation, and I am not sure about the US but in Canada there is no governing body on instruction, anyone can put a sign up saying they teach a safety course, and certify. Then if something where to happen its up to the courts to decide who's at fault.
