Integrated Circuit (IC) temperature sensors

Integrated Circuit (IC) temperature sensors (also known as solid state temperature sensors) are used for many consumer and industrial applications. These devices offer voltages that vary linearly with temperature over a given range. The operating temperature of these sensors is typically in the range of -50° to 150° C. In this activity, we will explore IC temperature sensors, their characteristics, and their applications.

John, a technical applications engineer at a manufacturing company, has been asked to investigate the possibility of using an IC temperature sensor for a digital fan controller. To do so, he will need general information regarding IC temperature sensors. You are requested to help him by developing a two-page, double spaced description of any three types of ICtemperature sensors that are commercially available. In your two-page description of sensors, please make sure to provide the following information:

• The make of each of the three types
• The manufacturer of each of the three types
• A summary of the key operational characteristics of each of the three types
• A brief summary of the different applications in which each of the three types may be used.
