Essay Three Approval Module

In Essay 3, I will present "Young Sheldon," Episodes 1 and 2. These two episodes of the Serial demarcates the young genius Sheldon Cooper and his scheme in life to sail through as a child prodigy in East Texas, where his intelligence makes him an outsider both at home and at school. Episode 1 discusses his high school admission at age 9; Episode 2 introduces problems of fitting in and conflict between family values and those of his intellectual ambitions.

My argument will be that the show Sheldon portrays a character whose intellectual capabilities are admirable; however, it actually subtly supports and maintains such views that intelligence alone defines the worth of an individual, often downplaying the importance of emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationships. The enthymeme would be: Although "Young Sheldon" emphasizes the importance of intellect at the expense of emotional maturity audiences should be more circumspect about the way in which this series portrays success in the development of the human character. My audience is comprised of fans of the series, youngsters, or parents who might get Influenced by the way this show orders intelligence. My argument is not to turn people off from watching the show but rather to view it with a critical sense, realizing the arguably one-sided depiction of what constitutes a well-rounded individual. I want the audience to keep on watching but with more sensitivity to how intelligence and emotional development are represented.

PROF Response

This sounds like a great topic. Please remember, you need to use  academic research to support your argumentative points. Make sure you review the Toulmin system so you can identify those points, and use the delayed thesis structure to appeal to your audience. You also need to create an enthymeme (what you've labeled as an enthymeme is not the enthymeme construction) that you can use as your thesis in the delayed thesis structure. Let me know if you have any questions.
