Hello. This week, you will start building toward your final project for this class. So now is a good time to look ahead at all the different pieces that will go into your final project so you know what to expect. You will build toward that final project in weeks 2, 3, and 4 until you turn in the last piece in week 5.

For this course, your final project is made up of multiple pieces. The first pieces are due in week 4. Since there are several pieces to your project, you should start planning now so you don't fall behind or get overwhelmed. Let's review what you'll need to start your project.

For the linked assignments, you will pick a Homeland Security or emergency management perspective and select an agency under the Department of Homeland Security. For this assignment, you will take on the role of a person who has just been promoted to the newly-created role of Chief Ethics Officer for your agency. You will need to thoroughly evaluate the state of ethics at your agency and report on your findings.

Let's start with the pieces of the agency-wide ethics evaluation that are due in week 4. There are two pieces, but they are tied together. The first piece due in week 4 is a semi-final draft of the staff study. The final version will be due in week 5. You will share this draft with your peers for a small group activity. The second piece due in week 4 is a high-level video presentation providing an overview of the results of the staff study, also known as Ethics Evolution. The presentation will be a recording of you on screen with slides.

The semi-final draft of the staff study will be used for peer review. The small group activity in week 4 will replace a standard discussion in week 4. You will use the discussion forum as a collaborative workspace where the peer review happens. You will break into small groups and work together to polish your staff study through peer review before submitting it as the week 5 writing assignment.

For this activity, you will need a nearly complete final draft of your writing assignment for week 5, the staff study. The other piece due is your week 4 assignment, a video presentation providing a high-level overview of the detailed information in your week 5 staff study.

For your week 4 assignment, you must provide a virtual presentation to a congressional subcommittee highlighting the major points in your staff study. This is part of your responsibilities as Chief Ethics Officer for your agency.

To accomplish this, record yourself providing a professional and engaging video presentation of your findings. You may use a free Zoom account or any other approved video option. Remember, this is a high-high-level overview summarizing the findings of your staff study due in week 5. Your presentation should include a video of you with the presentation slides.

In week 5, you will incorporate the feedback from the peer review and submit the staff study, a detailed report on your findings summarized in the week 4 presentation video.

To recap, your findings will be presented in two parts a-- video presentation overview of your staff study in week 4, and the written staff study in week 5. However, you must have a draft of your staff study ready during week 4 the peer review discussion and to complete the video presentation, which is your week 4 assignment.
