Overview

Fall 2024 marks the first assessment requirement for students to think and respond critically about assumptions within an immediate text. The final assignment for this course, including lectures, instructs you on how to balance opposing views by identifying and developing claims, counterclaims, evidence, and rebuttals.

For this task, to ensure Dallas College meets accreditation requirements for critical thinking, you will complete a pre-lecture task for extra credit considerations.

Of course, this assignment will be available until the end of course because your "assumptions" make it possible for the college and faculty to think critically about your learning capacity and progress. 

Tasks

You will do two things:

1. Download the attached document. Review the information.

Respond

You will provide your responses to at least one of the questions provided in the downloadable document. Here are the questions for your convenience:

1. When was a time that someone made an assumption about you because of some aspect of your identity? How did the assumption make you feel? How did you respond?

2. When was a time that you made an assumption about another person based on some aspect of their identity? How did that assumption impact the relationship?

3. What can you do to challenge assumptions? What questions can we ask to understand people and their values and perspectives better?
