Part 1: As stated in Chapter 6, “Older persons generally are no more likely to acquire an infection than younger people, but when they do, they are at higher risk for complications or death” (Ferrini & Ferrini, 2013, p. 159).
- Examine how the risks for these conditions differ from the risk for chronic illnesses and examine their similarities
Part 2: “Falls are the most common cause of injury, disability, and death among elders, both at home and in institutions, and the numbers drastically increase with advanced age” (Ferrini & Ferrini, 2013, p. 176). Furthermore, Ferrini and Ferrini (2013) found that “motor vehicle accidents are the second leading cause of accidental death among elders aged 65 and over” (p. 181).
- Examine the incidence of falls and motor vehicle accidents in the elderly community and describe the consequences of them.
- Identify opportunities to prevent falls and motor vehicle accidents within this community
