I have always been a fan of Edgar Allen Poe. Something about his dark writing spoke to me as an adolescence and young teen. Not that I had a hard life or was any way depressed, but his poems mad sense to me. The Raven, this dark bird most related to in real life to death and the presence of death coming. The raven his speaking in the poem to the man who is morning the loss of his love and the raven speaks to him and states "nevermore." This style of poetry paints a picture for its reader about what someone might go through after losing a loved one.

Poems in general have always been around for me. When I was little it started with The Cat In The Hat and it progressed after that. During highschool I became found of Emily Dickinson's works of art. On in particular was "Because I could not stop for Death" it was first published posthumously in Poems: Series 1 in 1890. Something about this poem has so much meaning to me. It wasn't just because of death, but the understanding that death itself was there. "We passed the School, where Children strove At Recess – in the Ring – We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain – We passed the Setting Sun – Or rather – He passed us – " (Emily Dickinson) the wording of it all so little but yet so much that the reader has an understanding it what she's trying to portray.

If I had to pick a favorite type of poem, I would have to go with a limerick. The reason I say this is because they are typically short, humorous, and catchy. They are just as fun to read as they are to create. Although, I do like epics as well. I rather enjoyed reading The Iliad, The Odyssey, and The Aeneid. Epics are packed full of heroic adventures and keep you wanting to know what happens next. Like these, many take place during the times of the Ancient Greeks and Romans, which I find that time period very fascinating anyways.
