Single-Payer Health Insurance

There are currently opinions being voiced (in some cases by 2020 President  candidates!) about the United States converting to a federally administered single-payer health-care program ("Medicare for All"). 

Questions for consideration:

 - What are the pros and cons of having single-payer (Federal Government) health insurance?

 - Note that some countries have implemented some version of a system of single-payer health insurance.  If possible, cite an example, and indicate whether it is successful.

 - How do you think such a single-payer health insurance system can/should be paid for?
