Examining Your Learning Experiences
Some literature suggests that teachers tend to teach in their own classroom in the same ways that they were taught. Reflect on your experiences as a learner, from the time you began school as a young child until now. Think about the kinds of learning events in which you have participated. Answer each question and use two references.
- What have been your experiences in learning? Were they mostly sit and get (for example, lecture and discussion)? Were they interactive (for example, cooperative learning or project-based learning)?
- Which learning events were most engaging for you?
- How did the different approaches (active and passive) impact your own learning?
- What implications does that have for your teaching?
Please note that the group I am currently teaching now are preschoolers.
