INTRODUCTION and GOAL

In this written assignment, you will focus on an ethical dilemma in nursing. Examples of appropriate topics include:

· Informed consent

· Advance directives

· Organ procurement and donation

· Genomics

· Impaired or incompetent colleagues

· Healthcare equity

ASSIGNMENT

Find at least two current ( < 5 years if possible) references from two professional sources related to the topic you have selected. These sources should help you to understand the cause of the dilemma, potential solutions for the dilemma, and the associated benefits of addressing the dilemma.

For your references, you may use credible websites, peer-reviewed nursing journals, or other current texts. When considering website credibility, look for URLs (web addresses) from government agencies (.gov), non-profit organizations (.org), or academic institutions (.edu). The website should be for educational, scholarly, research, or public service purposes. The author is often a representative of the organization’s website, so you may cite the organization as the author. As you study, focus on the following topics for this paper:

· Dilemma: What is the dilemma and what is the cause or causes of the dilemma?

· Potential Solutions: What are the potential solutions to address the causes of the dilemma? When would additional expertise and knowledge be needed to manage the dilemma?

· Associated Benefits: What are the benefits of addressing the dilemma?

PAPER PRESENTATION

· Your paper should be 2-3 pages in length (this does not include the title page or reference page).

· Introduction: Provide an introduction to your paper by explaining what is to come in the paper (what the topic is and why it should be read). Do not use “Introduction” as a heading at the beginning of the paper. It is assumed that the first paragraph, or paragraphs, of your paper are the introduction.

· To clarify and organize paper sections, use the following level 1 headings in APA format. See the inside front cover of your APA manual for assistance in formatting headings.
