My business Idea: “Antiperspirant. Japanese people are overly fond of any product which adds an odor such as Fabreeze (absolutely huge hit in Japan) or fabric softener which is advertised as adding scent (Snuggle is called ‘Fa-fa-), but not products which address the cause of odor. They bathe and have generally exceptional hygiene, but don’t seem to understand how body odor works.
Oddly, in a nation of clean freaks, the men in particular don’t wash their hands with soap after using the toilet for example. Surveys have said the main reason is they can’t actually see bacteria and viruses. So if something looks clean, and it smells clean, then as far as their concerned, it is clean. But they wear masks in order to prevent catching or spreading diseases—amongst other reasons.”
