Read the attached file, an excerpt from Edward Muir's The Culture Wars of the Late Renaissance where the opera, The Coronation of Poppea is discussed.  We will be watching some selections from this opera in class very soon.  In this chapter, numerous scholars discuss the questionable ethics of the characters.

After you have completed reading it, write a one to two page answer to the follow questions:   Do you prefer works where those with good ethics and morality are rewarded?  Does the "bad guy" need to get their due at the end of a play, opera, book or movie for it to be worthwhile?  What do you think of the various arguments that the author presents in this chapter.

This paper should be 250-500 words.  You can cite examples from this article  as well as other modern examples.  As this is a "formal" paper, please do proof read.
