Introduction to Assignment

Developing as a writer can take a lot of time and work. Consider the amount of time spent learning and practicing the concepts of good writing such as developing ideas, organizing, proofreading, and editing. Although good written communication skills is a part of all college curriculums, many students do not think it is necessary to learn how to write well. For this assignment, I want you to consider how learning how to write well will help you in the future. Think about how it can help you academically (i.e., in other courses), professionally (i.e., in your future and/or present career), socially (i.e., in communicating with others), etc. 

Writing Task

Write an essay where you explain how learning how to write better will help you in the future. How can learning about and practicing the principles of writing (i.e., content, organization, grammar, and mechanics) help you in the future?  How do you plan to use what you have learned about writing in previous English/writing courses and/or in this one?  Of course, you do not have to answer all of the previous questions. These are questions to consider. 

Word Count/Required Length:  700 – 900 words and at least 5 paragraphs

Note:  Since this is a timed essay, please do not focus so much on grammar and mechanics for this essay.  Please concentrate more on the content and organization of the essay.
