Part 1:

Review documents attached related to Emergency Support Function (ESF) 15, External Affairs (may be a different number or unnumbered in some locations); joint information system (JIS) and joint information centers (JICs); and the public information officer (PIO) function in the Incident Command System (ICS). Prepare a paper of approximately 500 words that describes how at least two of these relate to and support communications in an incident--and how they relate to each other. In your paper, refer to the documents you reviewed and note your sources.

Part 2:

Write a press release

Using the information in the situation reports and incident information provided, prepare a press release of at least 200 words from the Ohio state emergency management agency. Review examples of press releases to get an idea of format, and remember, since this is for media and public release, put the most important information first.

A couple of sample news releases to review to get an idea of how they are organized:

If it helps you get started, you can find press release templates in MS Word as well as via an Internet search. Using a template for the format is OK for this assignment as long as you make sure you focus on including appropriate and accurate information related to this assignment and write a clear and well-organized release.
