Essay: Greek Pride versus the Christian View of Pride Assignment The ancient Greeks were well known for their contributions, to philosophy, art and sports. They believed that feeling proud of one’s achievements was justified. They viewed pride as a response to excellence, a way to affirm one’s value. On the hand the Christian perspective on pride as outlined in Scripture warns against self-importance and arrogance. Proverbs 16:18 states that "Pride goes before destruction a spirit before a fall " highlighting the risks associated with arrogance and egotism. While the Greeks valued accomplishments and considered pride a virtue the Bible advises against boasting. Promotes humility instead. This sharp contrast reveals religious viewpoints on the concept of pride. In society pride is often linked with individualism and self-promotion shaping how success and worth are perceived based on personal achievements. In sports, pride can serve as both a source of motivation and a potential stumbling block. Taking pride in one’s skills and successes can drive determination and persistence; however unchecked pride may lead to conceit and disregard for others. Striking a balance, between self-assurance and humility is crucial to avoid the outcomes of excessive pride while still recognizing and celebrating achievements.
Essay: The Reasons for Early Christian Persecution Assignment In the historical event of ancient Roman civilization, the early Christians experienced severe persecution, as the film "Dr. Francis Schaeffer: How Should We Then Live? First of ten episodes. Crucifixions, feeding lions in amusement arenas, and being used as torches in Nero's garden are a few instances of this persecution. Because the Christians refused to worship the Roman gods, which was considered as a danger to the stability of the Roman Empire, they were persecuted. Similar cases of persecution and discrimination still happen today, both in the United States and elsewhere. For example, because of their beliefs, may experience violence, harassment, or discrimination. Christians who follow their religious views risk jail time, torture, or even death in some nations where they are persecuted for doing so. In addition, false beliefs or misconceptions about particular religions may fuel religious hatred. This problem is reflected in my own experience, when I ran into discrimination since I'm not Christian during a job interview. Candidates for the position were implicitly obliged to hold the same religious beliefs as the employer, even when they met the requirements for the position. This demonstrates the negative effects discrimination based on religious differences may have on people's chances and quality of living. All things considered, the persecution of Christians in ancient Rome and similar events in our times highlight the continuous fight for freedom of religion and tolerance among individuals all over the world.
