CONCLUSION
The Early Christian and Byzantine periods
inherited Roman forms and put them to contemporary
use. The artists of these periods developed
vibrant traditions of art, architecture, and the
decorative arts. Not stylistically cohesive, the
works from the time after Rome’s implosion and
before its rebirth in the Renaissance are known
for multiple qualities. The works are secular and
sacred, tender and brash, solemn and dazzling.
It is no doubt that the combination of qualities
resulted in a collection of works that speak to individuals
and appeal to many.
