Public Service Announcement (PSA) Activity

By now you are more familiar with various theories, statistics and examples of public service announcements and campaigns. Using this new knowledge this activity requires that you create your own Public Service Announcement (PSA) about any topic related to domestic violence we have studied in this course.

As you create your PSA think about the message that you want to get across and to what community your message will be directed.

Assignment

This is a creative assignment so feel free to use any type of media to convey your PSA (e.g., video, audio, poster, comic book, website).

In addition to your actual PSA, you must turn in a 1-page (single spaced) Word document that contains the following information:

• What is the central message you are trying to get across?
• Who is your target audience? Why did you choose this audience?
• What is it about your PSA that will grab the attention of your target audience?

You will upload two files: your media product and your one-page Word document explaining it.

Tips

You can create and edit video with almost any computer, tablet, or smartphone. Most computers will also record audio, for example, if you’d like to create a radio spot. You can also create an animated, narrated presentation using something like Microsoft Powerpoint. Get creative, and think about what type of media product you can create to convey accurate information about domestic violence with the three target questions in mind.

There are a few ways to submit both your PSA and their assignment write-up:

1) When you submit your assignment, you can upload more than one file. Under the file upload box, there is a link that says "add another file."

2) You can include a hyperlink to content hosted elsewhere (e.g., if you made your own YouTube video).

3) If you've already submitted one part, you can still click on the assignment you submitted and add a "comment" where you can attach the assignment.
