Forgetting is a natural part of life that is associated with both working and long-term memory processes.  According to this week’s sources, what are some of the causes, theoretical explanations, or clinical conditions associated with this biological phenomenon, and is there a role for an orderly, purposeful process like active forgetting?  

Memories come in good, bad, and neutral flavors, yet some may cause significant suffering and disability for certain individuals.  Based on this week’s readings, what are some circumstances that may lead to undesirable or painful memories, and are there any promising treatments that might help to disrupt such memories and their reconsolidation?
